FAQ

1. Initial installation

01 Why is the front display blank?

Start by checking that the power cable is plugged in. Is the main switch (if fitted) at the rear of the device turned on? Plug in another appliance (e.g. a lamp) to verify that the socket is working. Check the SCART cable connection and make sure that the TV set is in AV mode and tuned to the correct AV channel.

02 Can I use an existing individual satellite antenna system with the new digital receiver?

Yes, provided a universal LNB is used. If an individual universal LNB is used, there must be no filter between the LNB and the receiver.

03 Why can I see the menu display for the receiver on my TV screen but not view any channel?

Ensure that the antenna cable is properly connected and that the plug is inserted into the socket marked “LNB IN”. Note that the antenna cable should not be connected to the LOOP OUT socket (marked “IF OUT”).

The satellite antenna may not be correctly positioned with respect to the satellite. Please ensure that the satellite antenna is properly aligned. Note also that there should be no obstacles between the antenna and the satellite. If the antenna is fitted to a wall, certain items (roof overhangs, trees, guttering, neighbouring balconies, etc.) may interfere with the signal.

04 The desired satellite cannot be found, or there is no signal.

Please proceed using the example of Astra1 19.2° East. In normal mode, press the 1 key (pre-programmed for channel one (e.g. ARD), then press the INFO key (ARD, FR11837). Signal strength AND signal quality are both 0% or very low.

Point the vertically-aligned dish towards the south, rotate it a few millimetres to the left, wait for about three seconds and repeat the procedure, so that the dish is gradually turned towards the east. Once signal strength AND signal quality reach levels of around 60%, the black background disappears and the TV picture is displayed. For other satellites, please select a current channel from the corresponding list of pre-programmed channels and press the INFO key.

05 I have no picture or sound, but there are readings for both signal strength and signal quality. What should I do?

Point the antenna towards the correct satellite(s). The antenna is currently pointing towards a satellite other than the one required.

06 I have bad picture quality with blocking errors, image interference and sound that comes and goes. What should I do?

Align the antenna more exactly. Start by pressing the “Info” key on the remote control. This will display the signal data for antenna alignment.

2. Problems with reception

07 Why do I have bad reception on certain channels? Example: Sat1, Pro7, Kabel1, etc.

Check for possible interference from a wireless (DECT standard) telephone. Wireless networks (WLAN) and alarm systems can also cause interference. Try locating your telephone elsewhere or using a better-quality satellite cable. You might also try contacting the supplier of the telephone.

The telephone does not work inside the specified frequency ranges. If you have no influence over a telephone belonging to a neighbour, for instance, you can also try retuning the channel, as channels are often broadcast on more than one frequency. If you own more than one antenna, you can also tune into the same channel from an alternative satellite.

Note that Sat1, Pro7, Kabel1, N24 and 9Live will all be changing frequencies in mid-May 2007 in an effort to provide better reception with less interference. The new frequency is 12.544 horizontal, the symbol rate is 22000, FEC 5/6.

08 Why does a channel that I previously received appear to be off air?

There are two possibilities:

1. The channel does indeed no longer exist.

2. The reception parameters have been changed.

In the latter case, please proceed as follows:

Delete the channel concerned from the list of available channels. Now carry out a search for a new frequency. The new channel will be added to the end of the list. You can now move the channel up to another place in the list if you wish. Please observe also the channel labels and taglines, which usually appear before the channel is relocated. They normally already indicate the new frequency that the channel is to be changed to. Additional information is available on the web and in specialist magazines.

3. Other problems (malfunction)

09 What should I do if my receiver or remote control stops working?

Try unplugging the receiver from the mains and waiting a few minutes before reconnecting it to the power supply. If this fails to work, please call our hotline number. The batteries in the remote control may be spent. Fit new ones. Always use batteries of the same type.

10 How can I return a mixed-up channel list to its original order?

Please load the default settings. This will return the receiver to the same state in which it was originally delivered. All other default settings will also be reloaded. CAUTION: Note that all personal settings will be deleted.

11 How can I return the receiver to its original state?

Please load the default settings. This is done on many of our receivers by keeping the Standby key on the front of the device pressed for about ten seconds. CAUTION: Note that all your personal settings will be deleted.

12 Why isn’t the screen displaying the correct time?

Please enter the correct time zone, not forgetting to take summer/winter time into account. Winter time is GMT plus 1 hour, summer time is GMT plus 2 hours. If you set GMT to ”on”, the device will take the time from the satellite signal currently being received (minutes only; the hours are set using the above procedure).

13 Why can’t I find a channel using the automatic scan function?

Either (1) the channel has “moved” (new parameters), in which case you should delete the old channel and carry out a new scan (see also question 11), or (2) the transponder frequency concerned did not exist when the receiver was originally programmed for delivery. If this is the case, you should now carry out a manual scan.

14 Must I carry out a software update if I want to receive new TV channels?

No. Just carry out a channel scan in the normal way. Software updates are always major operations, and may cause irreparable damage to the receiver if not carried out by a person with the required experience and skill. You should only carry out such updates if you possess these skills and experience.

15 What are the transponder data for a satellite update?

Satellite = Astra19.2° East, frequency = 12604 H, symbol rate = 22000, Pid 1264.

16 My remote control no longer works. What should I do?

The batteries are spent. Please fit new batteries. The remote control may also be incorrectly aligned. Try pointing the remote control at the front of the receiver, while ensuring that there are no obstacles between the remote control and the receiver .

17 What is the default password?

The preset default password is “0000”. If you have forgotten your personal password, please call our hotline number.

18 How can I obtain the channel-list editor?

Go to our website and download a copy of the editor .

19 My receiver has suffered a system crash and no longer works. What should I do?

In the unlikely event of a software crash occurring, unplug the receiver from the power supply. Reconnect it after about ten seconds. This will normally solve the problem. Please note that a software crash is not a malfunction, and that it is not covered by the guarantee. Software crashes on devices of this type (which also includes computers, wireless network routers, etc.) are rectified quickly and simply in this way.
